BROOKLYN TABERNACLE

Last Project Next Project

The Brooklyn Tabernacle building originally opened in 1918 as the Loew’s Metropolitan Theater with a capacity of 4,000 seats. The theater was vacant for many years and suffered extensive deterioration. The Brooklyn Tabernacle purchased the decaying structure and adjacent buildings in 1997.

Converting a quadruple movie theatre and unifying four separate buildings into a 150,000 square foot worship facility presented several complexities. There were facade unifications and historic spaces within the building that needed to meet certain technical requirements.

Kostow Greenwood Architects hired Outsource Consultants as expeditor and building code consultant. Outsource’s familiarity with places of assembly and egress facilitated the approvals of the multi-level assembly spaced in the building.
